9 Amazing Pigtails Hairstyles You Should Try This Season

pigtail hairstyle pigtail hairstyle

Should grown-up women wear pigtails? Well, indeed!! Pigtails are fun and sweet, and they can be worn by adult women as well as little kids! Consider sporting pigtails for a trendy hairdo to see how it helps you feel younger. Wear them half-up, or lower or higher on either side of your head.  Work with colored elastic bands or scrunchies, or add plaits or multi-tier pigtails for more and more fun!

It’s difficult to bring into terms how I feel, but pigtails are a mood. Pigtails are usually lively and cute whether you carry them in relaxed twin-pleated French braids or funneling Baby Spice with long and high pigtails protruding out right over your head.

If you’re already catching up with trends bred of lockdown, you’ve probably noticed a revival of ’90s hairstyles, with celebrities like Ariana Grande and Hailey Bieber reorchestrated the traditional style at home: hair split clean across the middle with two half-up pigtails drawn close from either side. Looking at all of these some might even ask themselves, how to do pigtails? Well, here is your answer!

How to do french braid pigtails on yourself?

Rather than your usual French braid, try a pair of chunky French braid pigtails. Only a fair warning that this hairdo works best on stronger, fuller hair textures.

Steps

Step 1: Three Strands and a New Component

take a part of the hair from the front. Make three parts and begin a crossing-over braid. Finish a stitch or two. When you’re about to cross over the segment closer to your face, take a piece of hair from your scalp nearby. Integrate it into the braided segment and cross it over to the center spot.

Step 2: Have those from the opposite hand. You’re now going to do the same thing on the other hand, near your section. When you cross it over, use your fingertip or a comb to sweep up a neighboring piece of hair and incorporate it into the braided section. Then repeat on the side closest to your face! Smooth the parts with your fingertips or a brush as you go. It’s fine if it doesn’t look perfect.

Step 3: Continue Along the Way. Keep braiding across your hairline, bringing hair to each section as you go. Braid until you run out of hair to add, then braid what’s left. If your hair is really short, secure the tail with a tiny elastic or crisscrossed bobby pin.

Step 4: Evaluate and Reflect. Now braid the opposite side! Try to hold the parts tauter this time, and apply smaller strands at a time than you did the first time.

Steps

Step 1: The Center Section. Part your hair down the middle, then continue the part all the way down the back of your head to produce two even parts of the hair. Put one part in an elastic or clip to keep it out of the way for the time being.

Step 2: Crossing the Underpass. Return to the working section and gently brush away any tangles. Take a small section of hair in the front and split it into three parts. Start a crossing-under braid and add one or two stitches (does not have to be exact).

Step 3: Begin Adding to Each Section As you braid, begin adding tiny bits of hair to each section. The only difference is that the parts cross under each other rather than over each other. A Dutch braid is simply a French braid. Pick up any hair nearby with a comb or your fingers and apply it to the section as it crosses under, then repeat on the other side of the braid.

Step 4: Gradually Increase the Amount Along the Way. As your braid grows longer, repeat the process. As it moves through the hemisphere of your skull, try to keep the braid going in a straight-ish, centered line. As your braid grows longer, repeat the process. As it moves through the hemisphere of your skull, try to keep the braid going in a straight-ish, centered line. Don’t get too far behind or too far ahead with the remaining hair. The additions should be at or about the same amount as the bride’s active stitch. Continue Dutch braiding until you reach your desired length.

Step 5: Complete and Repeat the process. Braid the remaining parts of your hair to the ends, and tie the tail with a small elastic. Remove the other half of your hair, brush it down, and repeat the process to make a second braid, attempting to hold it symmetrical to the first by watching its positioning and additional angles.

Step 6: Put It On! This is a really stylish look that’s perfect for athletics and recreation, but it can also be dolled up for a romantic look, as I emphasize in my other Crown Braid tutorial.

Step 7: As an added bonus, make waves while sleeping. Heatless style can be achieved with double Dutch pigtails! Put your hair in loose Dutch braids before bed when it’s still wet from the shower or after spritzing it with a little spray.

STEP 2: MAKE 3 STITCHES ON EACH SIDE. At the center of your portion, divide each side of your hair into three even parts and weave three traditional braid stitches.

STEP 3: MAKE A FRENCH BRAID. Start by making a French braid on one side of your hair, adding loose hair to the left and right strands as normal. After French braiding one foot, braid the other.

STEP 4: TIE OFF YOUR PIGTAILS IN. Clear elastics are used to secure your braids.

STEP 5: HIDE THE HAIR TIES. Take a small section of hair from each pigtail and wrap it around your elastic before pinning it to the underside of your pigtail.

Steps

Step 1. Prepare your hair. Use hair products like Sunsilk Smooth and Manageable Shampoo to keep your hair soft and easy to style. It contains five flower essences that keep your hair smooth and fragrant during the day.

Step 2. Heat should be avoided at all costs. Before using heat-styling products, spray some heat protection on your hair. TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Flat Iron Smoothing Spray provides adequate heat control and seals in shine while reducing frizz.

Step 3. Curl a single segment at a time. Make two vertical sections in your hair, clipping one and leaving the other down. Then, take a smaller piece of hair and wrap it around the curling iron for a few seconds before doing the same for another small section. After you’ve curled all of the sections, unclip the other side and repeat the curling process.

Step 4. Tie your hair up. Make your pigtails half-up in the ’90s. On one hand, gather a small section of hair near your hairline and tie it with an elastic. Repeat the process, on the other hand, making sure the pigtails are at the same height.

Step 5.Wear your pigtails from the 1990s. Enjoy showing off your #throwback look when reminiscing about the good old days. You don’t have to go back to school to wear pigtails, but you should certainly go back to your childhood haunts!

Steps

Step 1. Comb your hair and split it down the center. Brush your hair to make it soft and smooth. Part it down the middle from the brow to the nape of the neck with the handle of a rat-tail comb.

Step 2. Make two pigtails with your hair and secure them with hair ties. This is where you can let your imagination run wild. You can either do two high pigtails at the top of your head or two low pigtails at the base of your nape. For a Princess Leia-inspired look, place the pigtails on the sides of your head, just above your ears!

Step 3. Weave the pigtails and keep them in place with plain hair elastics. To make the braid, divide the first pigtail into three equal strands and cross the left and right strands over the middle strand. When you’re out of hair, wrap a clear hair elastic around the bride’s end to protect it. Repeat this process with the other pigtail.

Step 4. If needed, pull on the braids’ outer loops to volumize them. You are not required to do this, but it is an excellent way to add volume to your hair, especially if it is very thin. Begin at the bottom of the braid and gently pull on the outer loops until you reach the tip, then repeat with the other braid.

Step 5. Bun the plaits and tie them with hair links. Take the left braid and loop it around the hair tie to form a bun. Tuck the braid’s end under the bun, then wrap another hair tie all around the bun’s middle. Replace the previous move for the other braid.

Step 6. Fix up your hair as necessary, then spray it with hairspray. If the buns are too loose, tie them with bobby pins along the side edges to the rest of your hair. Once you’re satisfied with the look of your space buns, mist them with hairspray and let the hairspray dry.

How to do High Pigtails Classic Space Buns on your own hair?

Begin your pigtails high on either side of the head and make them into space buns for a flirtatious, eye-catching look.

Supplies

Comb

Hair elastics

Bobby pins

Duckbill clips

Dry shampoo

Hairspray

Styling paste

Conditioning oil

Steps

Step 1. Brush your hair and part it down the middle. Brush your hair until it is smooth and free of knots and tangles. Make a section down the middle of your head, from your brow to your nape, with the handle of a rat-tail comb.

Strep 2. Make two pigtails. You can wear them high on the top of your head or low on either side of your neckline with what works best for you. Smooth down the hair that is going into the pigtails so that it is clean and tidy. Hair ties in your hair color should be used to secure the pigtails.

Step 3. If you want more volume, tease your pigtails. Lift the first pigtail and comb it through several times, beginning at the tips and ending at the hair knot. A rep for the second pigtail as well. If you have thin hair, this is a brilliant idea because it will make your hair look thicker and give you bigger space buns in the end.

Step 4. Make the first pigtail into a rope by twisting it. Twist one of your pigtails away from your face to make a cord. The more tightly you twist the rope, the sleeker and smaller your bun will be.

Step 5. Make a bun out of the rope and cover it with a hair tie. Wrap the rope around the pigtail’s base. Be sure to wrap it away from your face and not from it. Tuck the end in.

Step 6. Rep the method with the second bun. Make a rope out of the second pigtail, then coil it into a bun. Tuck the rope ends under the bun and lock with a hairband.

Step 7. Make the necessary adjustments to your buns. This is where you can let your imagination run wild. Gently pull on the outer edges of the buns to loosen the strands if you want them to be messier or more voluminous. To add even more length, gently pull on the hair that is going into the buns to loosen it up. Concentrate on the hair on top and sides of your head.

Step 8. Spray hairspray on the space buns. If the buns feel loose, use bobby pins to protect them; use as many as you like. Once you’re satisfied with your look, mist it with hairspray and let it dry.

How to Half-Up Pigtail Space Buns on your own hair?

Half-up pigtails space buns create a perky dual pigtail look! Extremely amusing, particularly with loose hair out around the face and by using colored elastics.

Supplies

Comb

Hair elastics

Bobby pins

Duckbill clips

Dry shampoo

Hairspray

Styling paste

Conditioning oil

Steps

Step 1. Make a middle part of your hair after brushing it. Brush your hair to make it soft and smooth. Make a section in the center of your head with the handle of a rat-tail comb. Start the part at your brow and work your way down to your nape. Drape the left half of your hair over your left shoulder and your right half over your right.

Step 2. To hold one half of your hair out of the way, pull it into a loose bun. Using a hairband, secure the right half of your hair. You may wear your hair in a loose bun or even a pigtail. It makes no difference; the intention is to keep this half of your hair out of the way while you focus on the other.

Step 3. On the left side of your head, tie a half-up ponytail. Make a horizontal section on the left side of your head, near your brows. Start the part at your hairline and work your way back to the center part of your head. Make a high ponytail with the hair above the part and secure it with a hairband.

Step 4. If needed, tease your ponytail. Since you’re working with less hair than when making a simple space bun, it’s a good idea to tease your ponytail a bit. Immediately increase the strands of your ponytail and use a brush to backcomb them into the hair tie.

Step 5. Spin the pony into a knot and tie it off with a hair tie. To begin, turn the ponytail away from your face to form a cord. Then, wrap the rope around the ponytail’s base to form a bun. Tuck the rope ends under the bun and loop a hair tie around the base.

Step 6. Undo the temporary bun on the opposite side and repeat the procedure. Return to your right side of the head and undo the loose, temporary bun you made earlier. Make a second half-up ponytail, taunt it, and wrap it into a bun. Another hair tie should be used to secure the bun.

Step 7. If needed, tease the rest of your hair. You are not required to do so, but it is a perfect way to complete the retro 90s look.   Alternatively, you could straighten the rest of your hair if you made your buns smooth and sleek.

Step 8. Make some final adjustments, then mist the space buns with hairspray. If the buns are too loose, use bobby pins to tie them to your hair. Once you’re satisfied with the overall look, mist your hair gently with hairspray. Allow the hairspray to dry before heading out.
